What are the categories?
Children and teenagers, aged between 4-17, can enter through one of the following categories:
Arts and Crafts – Enter any piece of arts or crafts that they’ve done throughout the year. Examples: A picture, icon, woodwork, metalwork, embroidery, etc. You may upload up to 5 photographs as required to capture the work.
Literature (As Gaeilge or English) – Examples: A short story, poem, etc Works must be typed up (poetry readings are not a suitable format)..
Music – Send a video or audio of your child performing a piece of music. This can be a group or solo performance.
A child can enter more than one category, but please submit only one entry per category. Entries do not have to be based on a religious theme, but are preferred.

What is the cut-off date for the age categories?
The child’s age on the submission deadline (13th April) will be taken as the cut-off date. For example: A child born on 14th April 2017 would be considered to be 7 years old and would fall under the 6-7 age category
A child born on 13th March 2017 would be considered to be 8 years old and would fall under the 8-9 age category
A child born on 12th March 2017 would be considered to be 8 years old and would fall under the 8-9 age category

What is the aim of the awards?
The Catholic Home Education Awards have been established to encourage home-educated children in a love of their Faith, through a creative and fun competition that will also create a bigger sense of community among home-educated families through the awards.

When is the deadline?
The deadline for receiving entries will be the 13th of April 2025 (Palm Sunday).

Where and when will the winners be announced?
The award ceremony will be at the convent of the Sister Adorers of the Royal Heart in Ardee on the 17th of May and more details will be sent to those who have sent in an entry.

What are the judging criteria?
Originality: Creativity and uniqueness of the work.
Technical Skill: Proficiency in the chosen medium (e.g., sound, writing, or visual art).
Presentation: Overall impact, organisation, photography/videography, attention to detail, and clarity of the work.
Beauty: The work reflects the harmony, order, and transcendence of God’s creation and traditional ideals of beauty.
Independence: Effort and quality appropriate to the child’s age, with recognition of independent work versus excessive parental involvement.

Who is organising the awards?
The awards are being organised by the Knights of Saint Columbanus, Council 3, with the aim of restoring all things in Christ for those home-educating their children. If you’re interested in learning more about Council 3, check out our Facebook page below.
